BLURB:
Kristen Smith loves to work with children and her life-long dream of opening her own childcare center has finally come true. Everything couldn’t be more perfect until her high school sweetheart walks through front door with his son in tow. Randy Stroud was the "one" that she has never gotten over. She has never understood why he’d ended their relationship but it was obvious that he’d moved and she was more than willing to pretend that she has.

Yes, this could happen. It's just the odds of a quality customer are much lower than with something like Twitter. I find that the best ways to get good traffic is through Social Networks like this, BlogCatalog, MyBlogLog, and using Twitter searches for specific terms.

The odds of getting quality visits is much higher. Hence, a higher return for the effort.

Hey Eric,
Yeah that has been my experience as well... quick bursts of traffic in a couple day period as well as high bounce rates. As far as being quality traffic, we received a few click throughs as well . However, we only started looking into SU recently.
However, I just wonder if that type of scenario is good for building brand awareness though. Meaning even though it seems like this type of site visitor is just browsing site after site, perhaps somewhere down the road some of that traffic may turn into something positive....nothing may happen in the short term. However, maybe John Q Public may have booked marked the site to come back later?

I'd have to agree with Eric about the quality of SU traffic. I don't use it much now. I get much better quality traffic from Twitter.

Cheers,

Martin.

Hi Herb,
I have used StumbleUpon quite a lot to generate traffic ... but admittedly, not recently.

It was a great tool that would generate a burst of hits in a one or two day period. But these were simply people that were clicking the SU button on the toolbar to see what sites would come up. The visitors weren't people that were looking for something specific. So this meant, it was a great way to get high traffic numbers, but the quality of the visitor was significantly lower, therefore, high bounce rates, low click through on my internal links or Adsense links, etc.

I would prefer more quality visitors that are looking for something specific and find it on my site. They are more likely to return and more likely to refer their friends (and others) to my site.

Perhaps SU has changed their model recently, but this was my experience with the service.

StumbleUpon helps you discover and share great websites. As you click Stumble!, they deliver high-quality pages matched to your personal preferences. These pages have been explicitly recommended by your friends or one of 6,905,172 other websurfers with interests similar to you. Rating these sites you like () automatically shares them with like-minded people – and helps you discover great sites your friends recommend.

Seems like a good way to get targetted traffic.
