Stacy, hi,

Thanks for visiting and joining. You didn't leave a link to your site..!

As soon as you've got it set up leave a link here so we can join your site.

All,

I've just put up a blog post on GFC which contains some more detailed information on GFC and a link to Chris Lang's Google Friend Connect Tactics course. It's a free, 5-part course and I'm on day 2 so far.

It's worth signing up for it if you're new to GFC.

Here's the link:

Cheers,

Martin.

Welcome to everyone who's joined today. Remember to put your link here once you've got GFC set up on your site so we can hop over and join.

That includes those who've already got it set up.

Nelson hi - I couldn't access your Internet Mastery Center but I'll do so as soon as it's available and join. Thanks for joining both of my sites!

BTW everyone - I'm pretty new to GFC, so if anyone has tips on how to maximise it let us know!

Cheers,

Martin.

PS - if you do join and set up GFC on your site remember to add a link to the site on which you've got GFC set up so I can hop over and join yours. In order to add the link to your site first click on your image and then click 'settings'.

Cheers,

Martin.

Hi All,

Google Friend Connect is a great way of running a small community from your site or blog.

Visitors can join GFC from the page on which you have the widgets and invite friends who have similar interests - so it's a good way to start developing traffic and a following.

One blog I know now offers GFC as an alternative means of taking comments from readers.

It's still pretty new, but it's gathering momentum and I believe it will become big - most of Google's stuff does!

Setting it up is easy.

If you don't already have a Gmail account you can get one for free. Once you have one of those you can add Google Friend Connect by simply adding it from your account page within Google.

When you want to set it up, just follow the steps on the GFC set up page. Google will then give you two files that you need to upload to your site.

When you've done that you can select and customise the look of the widgets, copy and paste the code into your site where you want the widgets to appear and you're done.

I have GFC on my travel site as well as my blog, and I think that the potential benefits are greater for static sites.

This is because blogs already have commenting functionality. Static sites generally don't, so adding GFC allows you to add this and start generating a discussion around pages on your static sites.

All this does, of course, lead to more traffic.

Finally there are now quite a few GFC directories - another way to spread the word about your site and get traffic.

I've got GFC on two of my sites:

My Travel Site

and

My Blog

If you hop over and join either site I'll make sure to join your site in return.

Cheers,

Martin.
