The Zen Tweeter

Zen and the Art of the Family Vacation

I long for the month of August. For the past 18 years, we’ve been coming to the island of Martha’s Vineyard, always in August. It’s a time for us to escape the normal grind and take a different path. When we’re here on the island, we have no schedule, no commitments, no work to do, [...]

Find Amazing Work, the Secret to Happiness

I was just let go a couple of weeks ago, what am I going to do? The economy is down, no one is answering my calls, the job boards have nothing, and the good postings have 100 or more people applying for that job. I can’t get an interview and the bills are piling up. [...]

Getting In the Zone with Dead Stroke

How to Get Into the Zone I have often characterized my state of mind when in dead stroke as unconscious. What I mean is that I’m of no mind, a detached state of being that has the quality of pure simplicity. No distractions are possible, because they cannot penetrate what is not there. Dead Stroke is [...]

Morning Walks Along Warner Trail

I take this walk just about every morning, usually with my wife Ellen. There’s nothing more Zen than enjoying the beauty of mother nature. This photo expose and geo-stamping was created using the iPhone App called Trails, see my review, and then uploaded to EveryTrail. Warner Trail at EveryTrailMap created by EveryTrail: GPS Trail Maps

iPhone App Review, The B1nary Game

The wife calls upstairs, “Ernie dinner’s ready!” I yell back, “Be right down.” Fifteen minutes go by and the wife, a little perturbed this time, calls up again, “Ernie, your dinner’s getting cold!” I mutter, “Um… Ok.” Twenty minutes later, the wife appears at my office door, “ahem!” I look up, “Yeah?” I say. Her [...]

Martin made a comment earlier about twitter - putting in your 'search term' and letting it run. I have no clue what this is! Can someone help me out with this? I would LOVE to get many followers if it will grow my business.
Thanks!

HUbspot has posted an article today stating that the founder of Twitter is considering charging for commercial accounts.

The article goes on to describe some of these changes and the benefits on the community.

Hey Everyone,

Way back somewhere near the beginning of this group I talked about how I'm using Twitter to grow traffic to my blog by setting up searches, looking out for questions I can answer and answering them.

I always put in the same search term, and over the past few weeks I've noticed some questions that keep being repeated in one form or another.

Happily, I happen to have written a blog post a few months ago, which directly addresses one of those frequently repeated questions.

So now, when that question comes up, all I do is tell the questioner that I wrote a blog post on exactly that subject and give them the link.

And that blog article has risen to (currently) the second most popular article on my blog. It was the most popular until a few days ago, but someone buzzed one of my other articles on StumbleUpon, which brought a spike of traffic and knocked it down to 2nd place.

No surprise there, you might say - and it would be true.

But the good thing is that average daily traffic to my blog is approaching 4 times higher than it was a month ago, before I started doing this.

And I'm getting more than 4 times as many new followers a day than I was a month ago including, this morning, my first guru follower.

My point being this: it's working.

And it's not time consuming. I just put in my search term and leave Twitter running in a separate tab. Whenever there are 10 - 15 new responses to my search term I hop over and check them out. If there are any questions that I can answer, I do so.

So here's my suggestion if you're looking for more visitors:

Log onto Twitter each morning, put in your search term and let it run. Put in the same search term every day so you really get to know what's going on in your particular niche.

Answer any questions that you can.

When you find a question that's being repeated frequently write a blog post that addresses it.

Then, whenever that question comes up, simply refer the questioner to your blog post.

And if you already have a blog post written, so much the better.

Keep at it. Consistency and persistence are the keys to success here.

This stuff works - really.

Cheers,

Martin.

Hey Ginny,
I just heard that at 9:42pm EST that FaceBook shutdown the ChatToText application for violating their Terms And Policies. However, ChatToText, Inc is trying to get people to voice their opinions on the matter. Check out: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=47242297013
